Over a period of more than 40 years, Wirtgen has acquired its leading position, mainly in the field of milling technology. Despite its focus on road construction, the product portfolio of Wirtgen GmbH comprises a broad range of products. In addition to machines for the new construction and rehabilitation of roads, we do, of course, also supply the respective cutting tools and a large variety of optional equipment for special applications.

Cold milling machines – As the worldwide market leader in cold milling, Wirtgen currently offers 14 machine models with working widths between 35 cm and 4.30 m for the removal of individual asphalt layers as well as complete pavement structures.

Soil stabilisers and cold recyclers – The economical processing of existing soils and pavements, a process saving material resources as well as energy, is a hallmark of our machines which not only homogenise and stabilise soils but can also remove damaged pavement material while simultaneously producing a new base course layer.

Hot recyclers – We offer powerful large machines for the rehabilitation of bituminous pavement layers on roads and airports.

Slipform pavers – Seven paver models and several ancillary machines are available for the highly automatic paving of concrete pavements and profiles.

Surface Miners – The Wirtgen Surface Miners manage to efficiently cut hard rock and coal in open-cast mining and earth or rock in routing projects. Drilling and blasting are not required.

Cutting tools and milling machine accessories – Our product portfolio is completed by a comprehensive range of different cutting tools and machine accessories.

Versatility in practice for maximum cost-efficiency

Both specialist service companies and civil engineering contractors value the numerous possible uses of the cold milling machine W 1000. The most important point in all cases is to ensure that the machine operator can handle the various jobs entailed in removing surfacing quickly and accurately. The versatility of the W 1000 makes it an extremely cost-efficient machine for its owner.

The carefully matched design features of the W 1000 are responsible for its outstanding extraction performance when milling carriageway pavings:

o Powerful drive with a 149 kW/202 PS diesel engine.
o Sufficiently heavy machine weight with low centre of gravity.
o Permanent all wheel drive with selectable differential lock.
o Mechanical cutter drive with automatic belt tensioner.
o Disconnect able, pivot able loading conveyor of variable height.

The robust milling drum system for working in extreme conditions

The engine power is transmitted to the milling drum with high efficiency by a belt with automatic tensioning device. This system also acts as a damper reducing the risk of mechanical dam-age to the drive elements, for instance if a manhole cover is inadvertently touched.

The tool holders are welded onto the body of the drum. They are optimally arranged to ensure smooth operation, even when milling extremely hard pavings. Integrated locator pins ensure that the new tool holder is optimally positioned if a tool holder ever has to be changed.

The milling drum of the W 1000 can optionally be equipped with the proven and patented quick-change tool holder system HT3. In this case, the tool holder comprises two parts. If the tool-holder is worn, only the upper part, which is fixed by means of a retaining screw, has to be exchanged.

A scraper blade ensures that the milled material is taken up cleanly. It can be set at a fixed height so that the paving can be milled right down to the crushed-stone base course.
 
One ton after another: endless loading of the milled material

The granulated milled material is continuously transferred to the truck by the covered loading belt, even if large volumes or lumps are produced when milling cracked pavings.

The loading belt can be pivoted over a wide angle in order to load material on-to trucks in bends or next to the milled lane.

The milling granulate is taken up cleanly and loaded onto trucks.

Precision: accurate milling to all depths

The right and left-hand milling depths can be conveniently set from the operator's seat and are monitored on large scales, even when the right-hand sup-porting wheel is swung in. This ensures that sloped cuts can also be produced accurately and without difficulty.

The clear view of the milled edge and the direction pointer at the front of the machine makes it easier to follow a straight line, as well as to mill tight radii.
